OCC Membership

Joining is simple.

Any higher education institution in the state of Ohio is eligible for membership with Ohio Campus Compact.

Just complete the following steps:

 

1. Download and complete an application.

2. Send application in with a letter of support from your President. Please include the completed campus contact list and your membership dues.

Yearly dues are based on a sliding scale dependent upon full-time equivalent undergraduate enrollment. Please see the application for details.

Ohio Campus Compact recognizes that civic engagement takes a variety of forms across two-year, four-year, public, and private institutions. OCC strives to support the current work of our members as well as to assist them in efforts that more fully realize their civic missions.

Membership in Ohio Campus Compact confers the following benefits:

Financial Support

Ohio Campus Compact offers competitive grants and funding to campuses and their community partners to foster student and institutional participation in innovative community service, service-learning and other civic engagement programs and practices. Membership in OCC also enables campuses to participate in our campus-based VISTA program.

Training and Technical Assistance

Faculty, staff, students and community partners are invited to attend training, conferences, workshops and other meetings at member rates. These events promote service-learning and community service, cultivate a discourse on current issues, share information and program models, and stimulate leadership, collaboration and partnership building. OCC also assists members in gaining knowledge about "best practices" and aids campuses in developing strategies for the design, development, implementation and management of campus-specific service programs.

Regional Collaborations

OCC provides opportunities for networking, partnership building and cross-stream training through our involvement in the Midwest Nine State Consortium, which includes Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin.

Resources and Publications

Publications on new and existing community service and service-learning initiatives, current research, syllabi, curricula, and examples of best practices are maintained in our office for use by member institutions.

Recognition

OCC offers opportunities for statewide recognition on a variety of levels. Students are recognized for leadership in service through our annual, state-wide Charles J. Ping, Fifth-Third Bank, and State Farm awards and are nationally recognition through the Frank Newman Leadership and Howard R. Swearer Humanitarian Student Awards.

There are also opportunities for statewide faculty and staff recognition through the David Hoge Award for Excellence in Campus Service and national recognition through awards lincluding the Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning.

Public Education and Legislative Outreach

Both the Ohio Campus Compact and the National Campus Compact monitor state and national policy issues relevant to campus service and encourage legislation that supports and funds community service and service-learning programs.

 

National Membership

Membership in Ohio Campus Compact also confers membership to the National Organization located at Brown University as well as access to 31 other State Compact offices. Ohio Campus Compact is the state of Ohio's affiliate for Campus Compact. OCC receives generous funding from The Ohio Department of Education and in-kind support from it's host campus, Denison University.

Campus Compact is a national coalition of over 1000 college and university presidents established to create public service opportunities for their students and develop an expectation of service as an integral part of the undergraduate experience.
