Your Voice Matters Cleveland: Shaping Civic Engagement in the 21st Century

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) launched the Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship to enable more Americans to obtain the values, knowledge and skills needed for participation in a 21st-century democratic society. The Commission will deepen the national dialogue around democracy, citizenship, and community, by exploring civic and political participation in the United States today and will set out a plan of action for promoting the values and behaviors that define effective citizenship in a diverse 21st century democracy. AAAS has selected Cleveland as a location for one of the community conversations. This is an exciting opportunity for people to contribute to a national report and recommendations about what civic and political participation and effective citizenship can and should look like. People will have time to share their experiences (both challenges and opportunities) of living in a democracy today and respond to recommendations put forth from other communities.
