ACE/AIEA Internationalization Collaborative 2019: Preparing for Tomorrow’s Student

January 19
San Francisco, CA

What will be the future of internationalization in higher education? In the United States, student enrollment is reflecting more than ever a diversity of student identities and life stages —students of color, adult learners, single parents, veterans, first-generation immigrants, and international students. How can U.S. colleges and universities recognize the complexity of their student body as a strength and integrate their varied backgrounds as a resource for global education? Looking to our international community, what new approaches are other higher education systems adopting to internationalize? These topics and more will be explored at the 2019 ACE/AIEA Internationalization Collaborative, a one-day, annualconference devoted to meeting the challenges of campus internationalization. The Collaborative meets in conjunction with the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) Annual Conference. Registration for the two events is separate, and we strongly encourage you to attend both. The design of this year’s Collaborative will include opportunities to: Adopt various methods of learning (experiential, interactive technologies, etc.) through which global competencies could be offered…

The Ohio State University, 281 W. Lane Ave
Columbus, 43210 United States

What role do meaningful partnerships play in creating a sustainable future? How does a community become and remain vibrant and resilient? How can we ensure future generations have the clean air and clean water on which all life depends? Building on the success of 2018, this conference will bring together a broad range of community engagement practitioners to share diverse ideas, engage in robust discussion and actively develop networks to address these and other complex questions. Faculty, staff, students and community partners will explore the importance and impact of meaningful community-university partnerships during this two-day conference while having opportunities for professional development and making connections. “For nearly 150 years, our mission has been to elevate our communities through the creation and dissemination of knowledge,” said Ohio State President Michael V. Drake, MD. “Through this event, Ohio State will focus on expanding our engagement and scaling our efforts to address issues that affect us all.”

Placed-Based Community Engagement in Higher Education

January 24 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Webinar

Part of the 2018-19 Campus Compact Webinar Series Widely known through the work of the Harlem Children’s Zone and the federal government’s Promise and Choice Neighborhood programs, geographically specific community engagement initiatives have the potential to positively address the challenges of inequity and injustice within our communities. While we may be familiar with these types of place-based initiatives from non-profit organizations or governmental grants, less is known about this type of strategy in higher education. This webinar will include a presentation of a recent national study and the facilitators’ recent book on place-based community engagement in higher education, followed by an exploration of several of the most salient topics arising from this promising new strategy. ACE South Winter Summit: Tackling the Mental Health Crisis on American Campuses

February 7 @ 8:00 am - February 8 @ 5:00 pm
New Orleans, LA

Eleven percent of college students seriously thought about attempting suicide in the past year. Of this percentage, one in 20 made a plan to carry it out. Three out of 10 college students have struggled with depression in the last two weeks. One in 4 students have expressed issues with anxiety. These sobering statistics remind us that today’s college students struggle with a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide. Institutional leaders must be prepared to address mental health issues within the campus context and to create a supportive learning environment for students. Accordingly, ACE is convening a regional community to proactively address the challenge of student mental health and how it impacts individual institutions. Learn from experienced thought leaders, share best practices with your colleagues, and experiment with new ideas to plan effective future responses. Over this day-and–a-half summit in New Orleans, institutional leaders will: Examine the issues and current trends related to college student…
