GREAT STORIES FROM OCC’S AMERICORPS STUDENT RESOURCE CENTER – MT. ST. JOSEPH UNIVERSITY
Congratulations to Anthony (Ant) Wright, Ohio Campus Compact AmeriCorps member and student at Mt. St. Joseph University (MSJ) for earning the Mission Mug Service Award for his work in the MSJ Student Resource Center!
The Mission Mug Service Award is given each semester at MSJ to those who are an example of living MSJ’s mission:
“Mount St. Joseph University is a Catholic academic community grounded in the spiritual values and vision of its founder, the Sisters of Charity. The University educates its students through interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curricula emphasizing values, integrity, and social responsibility.” Members of the Mount community embrace:
- Excellence in academic endeavors
- Integration of life and learning
- Respect and concern for all persons
- Diversity of cultures and beliefs
- Service to others
Ant is in his 3rd year at Mount St. Joseph University, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sports Management. He’s decided to become a member of AmeriCorps and serve as the Student Resource Center Coordinator because he wanted to step out of my comfort zone and make more of an impact outside of his sport. Ant is a member of the football team and also plans to join the Mount Up bridge program that helps incoming students feel more welcome to college. He wants to break the stigma that asking for help is shameful and instead elicit the idea that asking for help/change is acceptable & should be encouraged through everyone. Ant hopes to make the SRC and Lion’s Cupboard a place where people feel welcome and accepted. Mount Up!
