GREAT STORIES FROM OCC’S AMERICORPS STUDENT RESOURCE CENTER – OHIO UNIVERSITY CHILLICOTHE

December 13, 2022

Meet Paige Danner, AmeriCorps member at Ohio University Chillicothe, and hear about a recent project she developed to introduce campus students to the resource center:

The Hilltopper Resource Center is a fairly new program at Ohio University Chillicothe. I knew that we needed to create an event or program that would let students know we were on campus. I thought providing meals for Thanksgiving for students would not only be able to provide a resource to some of our students, but would also bring attention to our center.

I contacted a local comedian, Lori Graves and ran through some ideas with her on how to help our students. We decided that purchasing prepared meals from our local Bob Evans that were cold packed would be our best option. We opened applications for the meals and 12 spots were filled within 72 hours. With the help and donations of local community members, all 12 meals were graciously donated to provide for our students. Meals were picked up and distributed on November 21st and 22nd. Many of the students who received meals also took advantage of our resource center by picking up other food, hygiene products, and clothing.

It was a great honor being able to serve our students for the holiday season.
